Dubai: The UAE's Adel Khalid produced his best performance of the Games on Saturday by finishing the fifth race of the men's sailing competition in 11th position.
The sailing competition has been disrupted by adverse weather conditions over the past three days.
Saturday's racing was also effected with winds of just six knots forcing organisers to either postpone some races.
But the Laser class went ahead and Khalid showed he had learnt from his previous outings.
In the last four races, Khalid had finished way down in the standings coming 38th in the first two races followed by finishes of 42 and 43 in the next two.
But in yesterday's fifth race, Khalid was in fifth place around the first mark and fourth to cross the second.
With some of the top sailors in contention, Khalid slipped down the field to cross the next two marks in ninth place and eventually finished in the 11th position.
The 20-year-old Adel is currently in 39th position overall with 29 net points in the field of 43 sailors competing in this class at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre.
